Cutting Edge Concrete Services performed the complete demolition and removal of asphalt pavements from within the basketball court area at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego. The pavement had sustained damage from water and root exposure from large surrounding tree’s. The pavement thickness was determined to be greater than anticipated during the demolition phase and required addition of Type II base material prior to HMA paving which Cutting Edge performed.
The asphalt was placed in one 3” lift and levelness and contour with surrounding pavement was critical as this is a playing surface in which pedestrian traffic could be a hazard. Following the 30 day cure time for the Asphalt, a rubberized slurry sealant application of court green and auburn was applied in 3 coats creating the flexible court surface.
