Cutting Edge performed the repair of six bridges aboard NBSD. Four of the bridges required working around tides from floating platforms. The majority of the work consisted of concrete repairs to piles, quay walls, and bumpers. The largest of the projects consisted of the complete restoration of the quay walls at Chollas Creek. This required the removal of all deficient concrete and replacing the entire structure by shotcrete following the treatment of the reinforcement with rust inhibitors to prevent future deterioration.
This work was performed around the tide schedules and created a very limited environmental window in which to perform the work. The remainder of the work consisted of the replacement of asphalt roadways on the deck of the bridges, and treatment of concrete roadways with Methacrylate’s to prevent corrosion. The project was completed ahead of schedule with no safety incidents to report.
